BayHawks Uniform Design Winner Announced

General McLane Student Wins BayHawks Uniform Design Contest

First-ever contest is a unique collaboration between the Erie BayHawks, Erie Arts & Culture and Green Mountain Energy. Uniform auction will benefit a green community project.

 Erie, Pennsylvania, March 17 – The Erie BayHawks, in collaboration with Erie Arts & Culture and Green Mountain Energy, have announced that General McLane sophomore Kaley Berger is the winner of the team’s first-ever uniform design contest, held in conjunction with the team’s Green Week taking place March 20 – 26.  The uniforms will be worn by the team during their March 25 game versus the Raptors 905 and will be auctioned to benefit a green community project to be determined. 

The contest called for artists, designers, and photographers in Erie County, of all ages, to submit a design that celebrates a ‘Greener Erie.’ The design was to incorporate recognizable elements of Erie, along with a depiction of what energy conservation and environmental sustainability mean in today’s age.

Berger’s design features her depiction of Erie’s Bicentennial Tower and the lakefront.  

“One of my favorite places to go in Erie with my family and dog is the Bicentennial Tower, and that skyline is the inspiration for the design. The front of the jersey depicts more of a night view, and the back of the jersey reflects the brilliance of Presque Isle by day,” said Berger.  “My Dad is an inspiration to me because he is a graphic designer,” she added. 

The BayHawks have worn other unique uniforms in the past but the design contest was a first for the team.  “We wanted the contest to be an opportunity for community members of all ages to showcase their talents and celebrate our beautiful region, while giving the winner the opportunity to have their work displayed in a big way,” said BayHawks team president Matt Bresee.  “Kaley’s design was one of several that were quite impressive and met the criteria we were looking for.” 

Berger’s winning design will also be featured on a poster printed by the Erie Times News and handed out to fans attending the March 25 game. 

General McLane swept the top three spots in the contest with second place going to freshman Ellen Eisert, and third place to art teacher Karen Hodas.   

Green Mountain Energy, the nation’s longest serving renewable energy retailer, is sponsoring the contest to align with their mission of changing the way power is made and protecting the environment.

Erie Arts & Culture will display all contest entries on the concourse of Erie Insurance Arena during the March 25th game. “We are proud to be a connector to the arts and cultural sector and highlight the talent in our community,” says Amanda Hurd, Marketing and Development Director of Erie Arts & Culture.
