Project:FIT

By Billy Hartman | February 14, 2017

Project:FIT has been a huge success so far this season! We continue our FIT initiative with a win on our highly-attended FIT game on February 4th. The BayHawks Project:FIT, presented by Erie County Health Department, is a year-long community program to promote healthy living to the youth of Erie County through fun basketball clinics, health activities, and exciting fan experiences during the 2016-17 BayHawks Season. Clinic Recap

On Thursday, January 26, the BayHawks, Erie County Department of Health, UPMC Health Plan, LECOM, and Iron Empire Clothing invited 70 kids from Erie county youth programs to take part in a free, hands-on basketball skills clinic with players and coaches.

Players Shevon Thompson, Alex Davis, and Reggis Onwukamuche, and Coaches Associate Tanner Massey, spent an hour with kids demonstrating activities to promote healthy lifestyles and habits. Thanks to UPMC Health Plan, the BayHawks were able to provide the Project:FIT Health Packet to each participant. The packet contains several youth health tips, interactive activities and games, and the Project:FIT four-week physical challenge.

Game Recap

The Erie BayHawks used a 39-point fourth quarter to take down the Canton Charge, 121-108 during FIT Night at Erie Insurance Arena. The BayHawks used a 22-3 run in the fourth to outscore the Charge 39-24 in the quarter to seal the victory.

Erie was led by 33 points from points Kalin Lucas off the bench. In his return to the BayHawks, Anthony Brown grabbed a double-double of 25 points and 12 rebounds. Branden Dawson narrowly missed out on his own double-double with 20 points and eight rebounds.

The team took the court in specialty health-themed jerseys thanks to Erie County Department of Health. The jerseys raised nearly $1,000 for the American Heart Association through an in-game auction. Our Project:FIT Night focused on promoting healthy living to the youth of Erie County through  health activities and exciting fan experiences.
